Police Captain Killed in Santa Cruz Shooting

A captain of the Bolivian Police was shot and killed when leaving his home in Santa Cruz, the largest eastern region of the country, in an incident that is under investigation. The tragic event took place in the morning in a neighborhood of the city of Santa Cruz, where the officer, identified as José C.A.M., was leaving his home in his personal vehicle.

Security cameras showed that another vehicle approached and blocked his garage exit. Two individuals quickly exited that vehicle, approached the officer's car, and shot him before fleeing in the same van they arrived in. The departmental commander of the Santa Cruz Police confirmed the officer's death and indicated that a firearm was used in the attack.

Various specialized units were dispatched to the scene, including the Special Force Against Crime, Intelligence, and the Technical Scientific Research Institute of the Police University, to collect evidence and initiate the investigation. The departmental prosecutor of Santa Cruz reported that the case is being treated as a murder, and information from witnesses and items at the crime scene is being gathered.

Surveillance footage is being analyzed to identify those responsible, and multiple bullet impacts were found in the victim's vehicle. Residents of the neighborhood reported hearing at least fifteen shots and stated they did not know the deceased officer, who had lived in the area for nine months. Local media highlighted that the murdered captain was part of the security team of the Deputy Ministry of Internal Affairs. So far, no further information about the incident has been released, and there has been no official statement from the Government.
